Good to record a commercial. I don't think it ever really worked. Even if it did it would probably run out of memory pretty quick.Mags were good enough for back in the day. They don't compare to the few good boxes that are out now. I don't care what mag you have they are all the same.

Back in the Day?? Really? They are not that old. when IPTV first came out they said they were using the Mag254 as the target box and I have been very happy with it . The only box that seems to record is the Buzz model and I figure If I get the standalone avermedia box it will work with multiple boxes even non IPTV Boxes. I have a feeling the thing I will be losing is the ability to schedule a recording without leaving the Box on but it will be a trade off

It was back in the day because others came along that are much better.Video out of a mag don't even come close to the other 2 decent boxes.

Really the dickens you say? Since it seems like the only one that allows recording to an external drive,,, Does the Buzz have that much better quality than the Mag254?

OK thanks. I just ordered the AVerMedia EZRecorder, (ER310) and I am going to see how things work out. I may get the buzz at sometime in the future and switch to it. Is there ANY particular firmware version that works the best to record to an external disk?

I would probably buy a Buzz Tv product. I believe they have a new one coming out soon. When i find out what it is i will post and let you know.Other then that it would be the buzz3000.Dreamlinks are good also.I just haven't tried any newer ones.

Buzz or Dreamlink, but if there is a new buzz on its way, I might wait depending on the timeframe for the release.
