software update on MAG 254

If the software auto-update on the MAG 254 is "enabled", and there is indeed a software update, then one would expect the box would automatically be updated, Right?
Well, I am accustomed to this procedure on many updates in the past.

And what if the "update to BETA versions" is turned "on" then you'll have to update the box manually, isn't that right?
I am told that there is the latest alpha version - 0.2.18. r16a2. for the MAG 254.

Has anyone done this?
Need some feedback/comment on this new alpha version and its effects on the MAG 254

Mine was also set to enabled but it never happened. after reading your post I went to look and yes there was a release in September. Ive just updated my mag hoping that it might make a difference with all the freezing and buffering happening now since they switched over to HD. No improvement there though. Would like to find some info on what improvements this new firmware was supposed to make.

I understand this beta version is like a test run (my words) for the "stable" version to be released soon.
Not much information is known on this beta version, but I am hearing from some that it is working fine.
