The mag 254 is shipped from the factory with r3 factory flashed firmware. if you are satisfied with the performance of your mag 254 using the r3 firmware we suggest that you continue to use that version and do not upgrade at this time.
Note: once you update your firmware from the factory r3 version you cannot return to the r3 firmware.
The firmware links below will allow you to download and replace your currently installed firmware with later or earlier versions of the mag254 firmware. each firmware download contains the required bootstrap and image file within the zip.
Required: you will need a clean usb memory stick of 4 gb or less that is formated to fat32 (clean=no other files on the stick) note: the mag254 can be very finicky about usb sticks. if it does not recognize your stick or your files or you get an error message the first thing you should try is putting the mag254 folder with the image file and the bootstrap file onto another fat32 formated usb stick.
****IMPORTANT****
Many have reported that the mag would not recognize the firmware on a usb flash drive greater than 4 gb in size.
We recommend a usb stick that is 4 gb or less that is freshly formated to fat 32.
You should always download files to your pc not to your usb stick and unzip the download on your pc than proceed as instructed.
A bad flash can kill your box or make it very difficult to reflash and correct the problem. before you attempt to flash you mag 254 with different firmware, first read these instructions which are in pdf format and should open in your browser when you click on the link:

the comments posted about the various firmware versions are based on the experiences that staff members had with that version. keep in mind that there are numerous variables and that it is possible for a firmware version to be rated excellent by one person and another will find it very flawed. your results may or may not be similar to what is posted here. that is why all the versions currently available have been posted here - trial and error to find which version works best for you.
***IMPORTANT*** How to go from r7 to r11
I have found from several attempts you can not upgrade directly from r7 to r11 by either method. Usb loading or via the inner portal s/w update url. If you attempt with usb loading you get an error "imageupdate not found" and if you attempt via the inner portal s/w update url you get an error "wrong signature"
The solution for this is simple, load r10 on the box first without any problems and after that you can upgrade to r11 using either method.
***VERIFY YOUR DOWNLOAD***
The size of these firmware files are relatively large - most around 60+ MB. Sometimes a download of this size will fail and the results will be corrupt. This can be caused by something as simple as a break in your wireless connection for less then a second. Before attempting to unzip and use the firmware verify that your Download is the exact same size as indicated just below the link for the file. If it is not then you must redownload it as the file will NOT work
