Maybe because they are only 480 or 720 i don't know i don't mind watching sd myself but i'm sure someone will know why.I was just happy with going from a mag to a better box with a better quality picture.

Dodgeit isn't it necessary to achieve HD on a device? I'm still learning about all of this. I've never had HD and always watched SD and so be it but i thought if it was available, how do I achieve it on my tv?

Is the Samsung full HD, or just 720?

Problem is that many of the sources that are used to feed the system are probably 720 and get Upscaled to 1080 (which introduces distortions).
Now if your Samsung is only 720, it is going to perform a conversion down from 1080 (more distortions).

A suspect they are doing it this way because they plan to change input sources to all 1080 for these new HD streams.

                  * 1 thing I do recommend to all users of the Service, if your STB allows a base resolution setting of 1920 x 1080p - 30 and your TV can handle it, use it.

                  /kens
